Following the initial exploration, production and transportation of raw fluids and gases, the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry is concerned with the refining and market distribution of the final product. Downstream processes involve highly aggressive chemistries – PPE has the material expertise to provide sealing solutions in these environments compliant with OEM and super-major specifications.
The process of refining involves converting crude oil and gasses into a range of useable products, including but not restricted to fuels, fuel oils and other hydrocarbon-based products such as plastics and synthetics. The refinery process is especially corrosive for elastomers, with the removal of sulphur-containing compounds creating large amounts of gaseous hydrogen sulfide (H2S).

High performance elastomer materials
Our custom-engineered sealing solutions are developed using high performance materials such as FKMs and FFKMs (from our EnDura®, Perlast ICE® and Perlast® ranges), making them ideally suited to aggressive environments. Along with excellent thermal and mechanical properties, our seals are proven against the corrosive effects of sour gas (H2S), ensuring reliable long term sealing for any downstream oil and gas application.
Our high performance elastomer materials have been specially developed to deliver superior sealing solutions to the upstream sector. Many of Precision Polymer Engineering’s elastomer material grades have been tested to international standards such as NORSOK, TOTAL, NACE, ISO 10423, API 6A/6D and ISO 23936-2.
