ISO23936-2 & NORSOK M710 Elastomers
ISO23936-2 and NORSOK M710 seals designed and manufactured to face the harsh operating conditions of upstream exploration and production applications.
ISO 23936-2 “Petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries – non-metallic materials in contact with media related to oil and gas production” was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 67. ISO 23936 (Part 2: Elastomers) describes the requirements and procedures for qualification of elastomeric materials used in equipment for oil and gas production. It provides general principles, requirements and recommendations for the selection and qualification of non-metallic materials for service in equipment used in oil and gas production environments, where the failure of such equipment could pose a risk to the health and safety of the public and personnel, or to the environment. It can be applied to help avoid failures of the equipment itself.
The NORSOK M710 standard defines the requirements for critical elastomer sealing, seat and back up materials for permanent use subsea, including well completion, X-mas trees, control systems and valves. The standard also applies to topside valves in critical gas systems and ensures adequate safety, added value and cost effectiveness for existing and future petroleum industry developments.
There are two relevant parts to the NORSOK standard:
- Annex A – Test media, conditions and procedures for ageing of elastomeric materials (sour gas)
- Annex B – Resistance to rapid gas decompression (RGD) – also known as explosive decompression
NORSOK M710 is an internationally recognized standard (developed by the Norwegian Petroleum Industry) that sets out the qualification requirements of non-metallic sealing materials and manufacturers.
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies. International Standards are prepared by ISO technical committees that focus on and represent a particular area of specialty.
ISO23936-2/NORSOK M710 certified materials
Precision Polymer Engineering offers a range of elastomer materials that have been third-party tested and certified to ISO23936-2 (Rev. 2 and 3) and NORSOK M710. Our ISO23936 and NORSOK M710 seals offer unique performance characteristics that have been developed specifically to reduce downtime, and improve production efficiency and reliability, by extending seal life in critical oilfield conditions.
PPE has worked with leading equipment manufacturers and end-users over many years, combined with continuous material development and innovation. Drawing from this experience PPE can provide technical support and material recommendations to offer the optimum sealing solution that provides the highest levels of performance and safety in the field.
