Introducing Elliot Haynes

INTERVIEWER: In the latest of our introductory interviews we’re here with Elliot Haynes, who has recently joined PPE as an Industrial Field Market Development Engineer. Bit of a mouthful… what’s one of them?!

EH: It’s basically an engineering position where the main responsibility is working closely with the customer to help them better understand their requirements, but from a technical perspective.

Sounds like a busy role!

Yes, not many quiet days so far! But I’ve been a design engineer for a decade working with elastomers and valves, so hopefully I’ll be able to give our customers a good level of support.

Hopefully you’ll still get plenty of time to relax. What kind of things do you like to do to unwind?

On a sunny afternoon I like to get the dog out on a long walk.

Not many of those kind of afternoons in Blackburn at this time of year!

Not really – this kind of wet weather was better when I was playing rugby.

Do you still play?

Not so much now. I picked up a few injuries when I was younger which stopped my progress a bit. I was the number one shot putter in the UK for my age group in the year I got injured, which was annoying!

That’s a pretty awesome achievement. We’ll have to sort out a PPE Olympics in the summer, see who can take you on haha!

I don’t know if I’d fancy my chances as much now! I tend towards hobbies which are a bit more low intensity. I’m a bit more of a gamer than anything.

What are you into at the moment?

I’m playing a lot of the new COD, and probably a bit too much Football Manager.

Never too much Football Manager, there’s always time for one more game. Who needs a first class degree when you can reel off inverted full backs from the Swedish second division?

I think it’s one of the few games that regularly gets a mention in divorce proceedings.

They just need to find a partner who looks at them the way I looked at Cherno Samba in 01/02. When you’re not winning leagues, do you get much time for a favourite TV show?

I think it’s probably Breaking Bad. As a complete start to finish series it doesn’t really miss and it works for a rewatch even when you know what happens.

Yeah, there’s so many series which start well and don’t know how to end. Naming no names.

Game of Thrones.

Don’t get me started. What were they thinking?!

Hopefully if he ever gets around to finishing the book we can have a real ending, but we’ll see.

Got any holidays planned for this year? Whereabouts do you like to travel?

For this year nothing too exciting. I’d love to go on a long road trip through the Alps one day – hopefully in the next couple of years.

Are your holidays usually as adventurous as that?

Not at all – an all-inclusive in Mallorca with nice food and nothing to do is perfect for me!

Have you got any favourite foods?

I like all sorts, but I’m never disappointed with a good steak and chips.

Can’t improve on perfection! Let’s just run through a few quick fire one word answer questions… dogs or cats?

Dogs.

Tea or coffee?

Coffee.

Sweet or savoury?

Savoury.

Morning person or night owl?

Night owl.

Thanks for your time Elliot!
