Precision Polymer Engineering was delighted to welcome a group of final year engineering students from Blackburn College to its facility, marking International Men's Day and offering a valuable opportunity to ask questions about working in the engineering sector.
The visit involved an extensive tour of Precision Polymer Engineering's Blackburn facility, where students learned the complexity of engineering and material science which lies behind an object as relatively simple as an elastomer seal. Mohib and Shaheer, two of today's attendees, let us know what they would take home from the session.
"The staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable throughout the factory tour," said Mohib Syed. "The day's experiences have definitely opened our eyes to some of the challenges of life in the engineering industry."
"The tour offered a unique opportunity to ask questions of people at different stages of the engineering and manufacturing process, who were all happy to take time out to talk to us," said Shaheer Ganchi. "For people just starting out in their careers, it's been inspirational to get behind the scenes of a local business which is successful across the world."
Geoff Disley, HN Engineering Programme Leader at Blackburn College, said "It's been great to see how engaged our students have been today. They haven't stopped asking challenging questions of the team here at PPE, and their level of interest has been clear to see."
"To see an engineering company continue to run community events like this against the backdrop of such a tough economic climate in manufacturing, it represents a clear investment in the next generation of local engineering talent."
Katie Affleck, HR Advisor at Precision Polymer Engineering, commented "We've worked closely with Geoff and the team at Blackburn College about the content of their new validated degree, to make sure it was fit for purpose and that their students would graduate with the skills they'd need for the modern world of engineering."
"We'd like to thank our special guests for coming along today, and especially for all their questions. Also a huge thanks to everyone here at PPE who took time out to make the event a success."
